Wat is een SSHD?

Een SSHD is een combinatie van een traditionele harde schijf en een SSD in één behuizing. In principe is het een normale harde schijf die is uitgerust met een extra groot cache geheugen. Het resultaat is een schijf met 500 of 1000 GB capaciteit die toch erg snel is! Voor meer informatie zie artikel: SSHD: Combinatie van een SSD en harde schijf

Het is belangrijk te realiseren dat een SSHD moet “leren” welke bestanden vaak worden gebruikt zodat juist deze permanent in de snelle cache worden bewaard.

Seagate Laptop Thin SSHD

De Seagate Laptop Thin SSHD 500GB bestaat uit een 2.5” 5400rpm harde schijf met een ingebouwde SSD cache van 8 GB. Het cache geheugen is van het MLC type. Het caching algoritme zit volledig in de schijf verwerkt; wat de computer betreft is dit dus een gewone harde schijf. Extra software is dus niet nodig, extra kennis ook niet.

Doordat het product slechts 7 mm (!) dik is past het in min of meer elke laptop, dus ook in een UltraBook. Er bestaat overigens ook een 1000GB uitvoering, deze is echter 9.5mm:
